A lasso
Click, drag across multiple tracks, select a block of regions. Would turn 20 seconds of clicking and holding shift into a 1 second of click and drag.

Hold “Shift” and drag a lasso.

Oh, wow. Shift-click and opposite corner. That would have saved a lot of frustration over the years. Thanks for pointing it out.

I was thinking you'd hold down alt, which would turn the cursor into a lasso icon, and away you go. (The shift+click trick is handy, but I got a 25 minute project with 22 tracks, some of which have a single region on them for an effect and are hard to see when you're zoomed back, so it's really easy to miss a clip.)

If we added "lasso selection" of regions how would you then create "grey" selection that only covers a section of time?
You don't need to shift+click each one individually. If you select one and then shift+click the last one of a group (opposite corner) you can select a lot of regions with two clicks.
