  2. Make Hindenberg behave more like an NLE

Hi there, I'm a former video producer. I've been using DAWs like Hindeberg, ProTools, and Audition for a while now. Given that DAWS are almost always designed for something other than podcast/radio/narrative workflow, I think Hindenberg should consider adopting some of the workflow features of NLEs like Avid or Premiere. Specifically, I am talking about having a separate window for your source material, where you can type in a timecode, or make a selection, and then insert it into wherever your cursor is on the project timeline. This would be a far superior way to work than making a ton…

  3. Add navpoints on audio import

Often, when producing DTBs, my team is dealing with audio files which has already been logically organized according to a book structure element, whether that is primary headings, or pages. What would be an incredible addition from our perspective is the ability to place navpoints in bulk at the beginning of each audio file.

An example case would be creating a DAISY 2.02 DTB in which the source audio files each represent a page of text. In the existing HABC build, a user would have to Tab->Click "Page" (or key-press) to add each nav element.

    I'm happy to discuss this…

  5. Mixing Stereo Down to Mono

Instead of splitting stereo tracks to the left and right, I wish there were a way to combine them together, "mixing it down to mono," for a fuller sound. Audacity does this reasonably well.

  6. Soundboard

In Ultraschall.FM (a Podcasting Template for Reaper) you can implement a soundboard as VST-Plugin and a ducking automation as VST either. For producing a live-podcast in Hindy this would be nice to heave.

  7. Change height of tracks individually

It would be great to be able to change the height of tracks individually to minimize their visual space in the edit window. Example -- a track of raw tape back up -- just to have a linear reference -- but I 99% of the time I don't need to see it expanded.

  8. EQ preset

Knowing the frequency response of the microphones I am using (e.g. Sennheiser MD 42) when working on recorded material I always find myself repeating the same EQ settings for the same source (microphone).

It would be great to be able to save personal presets.

(like already with the more complex "voice profile")

  10. Use Multiple Cores for Book Exporting

Having observed many a book exported in HABC (NLS), I've noticed that Hindy uses a single core to encode audio files even if there are multiple cores available (see attached). I think it would speed up the process (and reduce the thumb-twiddling) if Hindy could make use of all available cores.

  11. MacBook Pro Touch Bar Support

I noticed that Journalist does not include support for the MBP Touch Bar. It might be useful to have some of the basic editing commands, record button, channel muting, or other options available using the interface.

I realize this is only available to a small subset of overall users, so I understand it's not a priority.

  12. A horizontal line for sound level

I'd love to be able to place a line, that you could see and that would reach from one end of the track window to the other side, at a certain decibel level. That would help set all fades in different places to the same level. So if I always start my vocals over music when the music has faded to a certain point, I can then easily replicate that by seeing a horizontal line, which can be adjusted up or down, to ensure that I align my next inserted vocal at the point the music reaches the same level.

  13. Coloured boxes

    Hi Hindenburg,

I'd love a feature where I could change the default blue colour to red or green or whatever, depending on my editing process.

When editing, I have to use a separate notepad with time markings to say what needs to be changed. But I'd love to be able to highlight the audio boxes with different colours (red for re-record narration, green for adjusting P-pops, yellow for audio quotes that need to be verified by an independent source etc). This is how I run my email software - different colours for different types of emails/work. This is super handy…

  14. Close file without closing Hindenburg

It would be nice to be able to close a session without having to Exit from Hindenburg.

Most similar programs let you do that.

    Thanks!

  15. Text/Narration parallel to the audio wave

In times when more and more audio transcriptions in better quality is available (e.g. Trint), it would be nice to combine these transcriptions with its time stamps and attach them to the audio in Hindenburg exactly in time, like it is possible in Audacity with captions.

  16. More radiant color for Solo

When we click on "Mute", the color change is a nice bright yellow. But when we click on "Solo" the color change is not as noticeable. Please make the activation of "Solo" the same bright yellow as "Mute". Perhaps even make it "Bold".

I have many times scratched my head wondering why a track can't be heard. Then I squint at "Solo" as see that it has been activated.

    Thanks!

  17. Multiple Sessions

It would be helpful to allow multiple sessions. Many times I need to cut and past audio from a previous recording. That requires many steps: open old session, copy. Close old session. Open new session. Paste. Repeat.
Multiple sessions opened at the same time would be really helpful.

With the current framework it is not possible to have multiple sessions open unfortunately. It does take, as you describe, some steps.
What you could do is, place the clips you would like to reuse in the Favourites clipboard. This way they will always be at hand trough all projects.

  18. Automatic crossfades for all cuts

    Hello,

I use Hindenburg for podcast editing, and one thing I'd love is the ability to shift-select across several cuts and hit 'F' (or some other key/combination) to add crossfades between every cut in the selected region. Right now, I have to crossfade across all my cuts manually, and it's very time consuming. If I could pave over abrupt cuts and clipped breaths automatically, it would be so, so useful. Thanks!

  20. 96khz support would be a huge help.

Hi, I have been using Hindenburg for several years as a podcaster (findtheconversation.com, tucsonense.com) and 44.1khz has always been ample for my independent production needs. However, in my professional life, I am an oral historian at the University of Arizona Libraries, where we recently purchased Hindenburg to help clean up and edit our archival audio. Because we are an archive, we work entirely at 96khz/24bit. I realize this audio resolution may still be a bit niche, but it would be exciting to see that capability added to Hindenburg.

    Thank you!
